Right in front of you stands this industrial giant, nestled between the banks of the Danube River, a testament to German engineering ingenuity. From humble beginnings in 1946, it started producing tractor drive units in Passau, later expanding into axles and transmissions for construction and agricultural machinery, becoming a major player in the industry. Even the portal axles for low-floor city buses were born right here, allowing for an accessible experience for everyone. The growth of the company has been phenomenal, with more than 4,000 employees working in Passau alone. But the story goes further back, to the World War II era, when this site served as a “Waldwerke” production facility for the infamous Zahnradfabrik Friedrichshafen – the origin of the ZF name. Despite its past, the company has emerged as a powerhouse for technology, innovation, and sustainable development. Today, ZF Passau is the head office for the Industrial Technology division, overseeing operations across 26 locations around the world, pushing the boundaries of engineering and creating the foundations for a future of mobility.
