Across the Oostvaardersdijk, the Windpark Jaap Rodenburg II stands tall. It’s a symbol of green energy. Windpark Jaap Rodenburg II isn’t just a collection of turbines. It’s a story of renewal. The original windmills, built in 2000, were meant to be temporary. A new housing development was planned. However, those plans were postponed. The municipality then allowed Vattenfall and Almeerse Wind to rebuild the park. In 2022, the old turbines were replaced with ten powerful, new ones. Each turbine at Windpark Jaap Rodenburg II has a capacity of 3.8 megawatts. That’s more than double the capacity of the old ones. Together, these ten turbines generate enough electricity to power approximately 30,000 households. This project is a testament to community collaboration. Local energy cooperative Almeerse Wind owns two of the turbines. These turbines provide green energy to Almere’s residents and businesses. Eight of the turbines belong to a.s.r. Even the construction of Windpark Jaap Rodenburg II tells a story. During World War II, an Allied aircraft crashed in the area. A war memorial once stood there. During construction, it was replaced. Now, an image of the aircraft adorns one of the turbines. A memorial sign also stands on the Oostvaardersdijk. The Windpark Jaap Rodenburg II is a powerful reminder of the past and a beacon of hope for the future. It is where history meets innovation, and community powers progress.
