Observe the striking landmark before you. The Watertoren Roelofarendsveen rises gracefully. It stands 31.5 meters high. This tower is more than just a structure. It is a symbol of innovation and community.

The Watertoren Roelofarendsveen was built in 1932. Hendrik Sangster designed it. His vision resulted in a robust design. The tower quickly became central to the village.

Initially, the watertoren held 150 cubic meters of water. This provided clean drinking water. Before its construction, residents relied on wells and ditches. The tower was a blessing for them. Even the local tulips benefited.

Local tulip growers used water from the tower. They transitioned from using water from the peaty soil. The water tower strengthened the bond between the tower and tulips. Since 1986, four large red tulips have adorned the tower. They symbolize this bond. The Watertoren Roelofarendsveen became known as the Flower of the Randstad.

The Watertoren Roelofarendsveen stopped operating as a water tower in 1987. In 2001, it was renovated. VRP Architecten designed the renovation. The original tower had only three floors. These were the ground floor and the current sixth and seventh floors. Five more floors were added during the renovation.

The renovation was carefully executed. Challenges were overcome. Cavity walls and good ventilation were installed. This ensured a comfortable living environment. The original details were preserved.

Today, the Watertoren Roelofarendsveen has a new purpose. The ground floor houses a flower shop. Living space has been created above. The Watertoren is a valuable piece of industrial heritage.

This tower represents community spirit. It is a testament to innovative design. The Watertoren Roelofarendsveen stands as a reminder. It reminds us of the past. It also shows adaptation to the present. This remarkable structure combines functionality with beauty. It enriches the surroundings of Roelofarendsveen. The Watertoren Roelofarendsveen is a true gem.
