It is a sight to behold, this Torre d’en Rovira standing tall against the azure sky. The Torre d’en Rovira is one of Ibiza’s many watchtowers, a silent sentinel of the island’s rich and often turbulent history. In the 18th century, pirates posed a real threat to the island’s inhabitants. The Torre d’en Rovira was built in 1763, designed by the engineer Joan Ballester i Zafra. It stands strong and proud, overlooking the picturesque coastline of Ibiza. You might not know, but this tower is considered a first-class tower. What does that mean? It’s a bit bigger than the others, built around the same time in the Pitiusas Islands. The tower has two floors, connected by a spiral staircase. It was designed to defend Ibiza’s west coast, from the church of Sant Antoni to the Torre des Savinar. And yes, it did its duty. The Torre d’en Rovira, with its thick walls and strategic placement, stood vigilant over the seas, its lookout keen for any sign of an approaching enemy. Today, you can still feel the ancient energy of this towering structure. Imagine the sentinels, scanning the horizon, their eyes vigilant for any sign of danger. Feel the coolness of the stone beneath your hand as you gaze out at the endless vastness of the sea. The Torre d’en Rovira, a symbol of resilience and strength, a testament to the island’s rich and colorful past.
