Ever soared above the Dutch countryside? This is Holland offers you exactly that. Located in Amsterdam-Noord near the EYE Film Museum and A’DAM Lookout This is Holland is a unique tourist attraction. It’s not just a ride it’s a journey.
This is Holland opened in 2017. It’s a flying theatre a Panormavliegsimulator. It was originally conceived as Fly Over Holland by Brand New Leisure. Financial difficulties almost grounded the project. Fortunately Nedstede acquired the project renaming it This is Holland.
Before your flight you’ll watch two pre-shows. One is a film by Peter Lusse about the Netherlands’ history. The other features a model of the country showcasing its seasons. Then you’re ready for the main event.
The main attraction is a breathtaking 5D flight simulation. You’ll be seated in one of two gondolas suspended beneath a massive 15-meter-high spherical screen. The experience lasts 9 minutes. You’ll feel like you’re really flying. The simulation uses cutting-edge technology incorporating wind mist and scents for a truly immersive experience. It features 22 locations across the Netherlands.
The creators spent two years capturing stunning footage. They flew a helicopter just eight meters above the ground using a special fisheye lens. They filmed in all seasons and weather conditions. They even considered the sun’s position to get the best light. Getting these unique shots required special permission from various authorities and nature organizations.
The resulting film includes iconic views of the Amsterdam canals tulip fields the Wadden Sea and the Veluwezoom National Park. Original music composed by Renu00e9 Merkelbach adds to the atmosphere. This music was performed by a 40-piece orchestra.
