“What if a church could embody a journey?” The Stadshartkerk isn’t just a building. It’s a story of faith and community. This church in Amstelveen didn’t always exist in its current form. It began in 2004 as a continuation of a local Gereformeerde Kerk vrijgemaakt. This GKV church had closed earlier that year. Under the leadership of Tim Vreugdenhil the Stadshartkerk expanded.
The Stadshartkerk’s mission? To make the gospel relevant to modern life. They understand questions and doubts. They aim for open honest communication. Initially services happened in the Amstelveen Conference Centre near the Stadshart. That’s how the church got its name. Since 2007 weekly evening services took place in the Kruiskerk.
Today you’ll find the Stadshartkerk gathering Sunday mornings at De Schakel on Keizer Karelweg 94b. Besides services they hold small groups and networks. Lars Grijsen and Ewoud Holsappel joined Tim Vreugdenhil as pastors in 2012. In 2015 Tim started a new challenge founding CityKerk Amsterdam. Ewoud moved to IJsselstein in 2021. The Stadshartkerk remains a vibrant community. They welcome all people connecting them with each other and Jesus. They emphasize the importance of acting like Jesus. But they know this is a gradual process. They want you to join them on this journey.
