Here lies Scouting kampeereiland ‘t Mieuwtje Jisp a unique island camping experience. It sits in the tranquil village of Jisp. Officially named Scouting kampeerterrein ’t Mieuwtje. This island offers a simple yet enriching experience for scouts.

The island resides on ‘De Bruiloftsloot’. Jisp is within the municipality of Wormerland in Noord-Holland. The campsite spans about half a hectare. It provides a perfect spot for basic camping.

Simple sanitation facilities are available. These include toilets and two showers with hot and cold water. The island taps into the drinking water supply. There is no connection to the electricity grid. A solar collector powers the sanitary building’s small LED lights. Campers can charge mobile phones using the solar power. Remember that generators are not allowed.

Typically a manager is not present on the island. Assistance can be arranged when transporting equipment. This is done through prior consultation.

Scouting kampeereiland ‘t Mieuwtje Jisp is in the Wormer- and Jisperveld bogland. This is Western Europe’s largest bogland. It is managed with Natuurmonumenten. Zaandam, Purmerend, Alkmaar, and Amsterdam surround the area.

The island provides 20 canoes with paddles and life vests. Three rowing boats are also available. Campers can attach their own outboard motor to a rowing boat. Be cautious. Some waters are shallow and may cause a deep motor to get stuck. The island’s Lelievlet sailing boat can be rented upon request.

Two campfire spots with bowls are available. Bring firewood from the mainland. Six folding tables and twelve folding benches are provided. Due to the soft peat soil, pioneering objects are not allowed. Digging into the peat soil is prohibited.

The Scouting kampeereiland ‘t Mieuwtje Jisp has a rich history. It was established around 1960. It served as a site for the Nederlandse Padvindstersgilde NPG. The purpose was to introduce girls to water activities. Miep de Wit-van de Stadt was the initiator and first manager. She compiled her experiences in a book titled “De Goede Verwachting”.

Swimming is generally permitted in the surrounding waters. When supervising children it’s wise for staff to use canoes. This will shield swimmers from passing boats. It also alerts boaters to the presence of swimmers.

A canoe network was created with the Kanocentrum in Wormer. Numbered signs in the water guide canoeists. Maps of this network are accessible to all campers at Scouting kampeereiland ‘t Mieuwtje Jisp.

Nearby cities offer cultural and historical sites. The Zaanse Schans and Alkmaar Cheese Market are worth visiting.

Scoutingcentrum de Stierop in Uitgeest is only 8 kilometers away by water. Follow Het Zwet and De Poel through the Poelsluis onto the Zaan. Head north on the Zaan, then west into the Tapsloot. Pass under the Prinses Amaliabrug N246 then north into the Markervaart. The Scoutingcentrum de Stierop is 1.5 kilometers away. Follow canoe route signs toward point 27 Jisp then 17, 16, and 1.
