However, by 1997, the court ordered the Rustenburgerstraat location vacated. This was a difficult moment. Yet, the SSDA board persevered. They connected with the Osdorp district. The district offered the possibility of leasing land.
After discussions, the SSDA secured a lease for a plot on the corner of Saaftingestraat and Valkenisseweg. This marked a turning point. Construction of the Radha Krishna Mandir began on July 19, 1999. It became the first distinctively Hindu temple in the Netherlands.
The Radha Krishna Mandir opened its doors in March 2000. The construction was financed without government support. The community’s own resources made it possible. Later, an extension provided a dining area and extra space.
In 2016, renovations added new domes. These domes enhanced the temple’s exterior. Now, the Radha Krishna Mandir stands as a beacon. It welcomes everyone to experience Hindu traditions.
Every Sunday, services offer opportunities for prayer and reflection. During festival days like Shivratri and Shri Krishna Janamasthmi, special celebrations occur.
