The Piet Römerbrug is a bridge in Amsterdam Slotervaart. It is only for cyclists and pedestrians. The bridge crosses the Slotervaart. It connects to the bicycle and footpath along the Plesmanlaan.
This Piet Römerbrug dates back to 1961 and 1962. Dick Slebos designed it. He worked for the Dienst der Publieke Werken at the time. Slebos included some signature elements in the Piet Römerbrug. You can see the sloping white concrete banks. Notice the white span with blue railings with rectangular patterns.
The bridge has something unique. Look at the bridge pillars. This bridge has four of them. Since 2008, the Piet Römerbrug has been a municipal monument.
The southern bridge piers had to be close to the shore. This is because of the culvert under bridge 712. They support the Piet Römerbrug over the culvert. So it’s not just a pretty bridge.
