“Dive in or relax on the meadow” is the motto of Noorderparkbad. This isn’t just a swimming pool. It’s an architectural masterpiece in Amsterdam Noord.
The Noorderparkbad offers fun for the entire family. It is an in and outdoor swimming pool complex. You can swim laps here. You can also take lessons or participate in an aquarobics class. Special times are reserved for children’s and family swimming.
After forty years, the Noorderparkbad became the successor to the Floraparkbad. The indoor pool is open all year. The outdoor pool opens when the weather is nice.
Located on the edge of the Noorderpark, the Noorderparkbad includes an indoor and outdoor area with swimming pools. The indoor section was built from 2013 to 2015 next to the Floraparkbad. The Floraparkbad had opened in 1975. After the new pool opened in April 2015, the old pool building was demolished.
The building was designed by de Architekten Cie. In 2016, it was awarded the Amsterdam Architecture Prize. The Noorderparkbad fell frequently in prizes. In 2016, the pool won the jury and public prize of the Amsterdam Architecture Prize. It was also nominated for the BNA Best Building 2016. At the Piscine Global swimming pool trade fair in Lyon, it was named the most beautiful public swimming pool in the world.
The Noorderparkbad is designed to be an organic part of the surrounding greenery. The surrounding park and the building blend seamlessly. It is the most sustainable pool in the country. Round and wavy shapes dominate.
A nice eye-catcher is the rain curtain. On rainy days, you can read from the rain curtain. It shows how rainwater turns into swimming water. On sunny days, the curtain is hidden in the fog. On winter days, you can see how ice crystals transform the building into an ice palace.
The Noorderparkbad wants to be a meeting place for the neighborhood. Just like the bathhouses of the past. You have a beautiful view of the park. From the Noorderpark, you can follow nice walking and cycling routes. You can enjoy good food and drinks in the Grand Café. There are children’s and paddling pools available. So come on over to Noorderparkbad.
