Hidden within Amsterdam-Noord lies a unique fusion. It is where art and nature intertwine. We are about to explore the Noorderklankpark Installation.

The Noorderklankpark Installation resides in the heart of Noorderpark. This park emerged in 2014. It was formed by merging the Florapark and Volewijkspark. These parks were located on opposite sides of the Noordhollandsch Kanaal.

The expansion of the Nieuwe Leeuwarderweg led to this unification. This road was needed for metro line 52. The road’s 6-meter deep construction aimed to reduce its barrier effect.

West 8, an architecture firm, envisioned the park’s integration. They designed two new bridges over the Noord-Hollandsch Kanaal. This created a circular circuit. Thus, the park could be seen as one entity. The Eva Schalkbrug was the first park connection over the canal. It opened in 2017.

West 8 also created a theme for the park. It features a hederabladerenmotief. This motif appears in metal bridge railings and path decorations. You may observe it as a 3D design in concrete. Near the entrances are large masts made of stainless steel. Steel cables support these masts.

The Noorderpark Installation finds its home in a park with rich amenities. Metro station Noorderpark lies at the junction of Nieuwe Leeuwarderweg and Johan van Hasseltweg.

The park’s western part, formerly Florapark, boasts the Noorderparkbad. This new public swimming pool replaced the old Floraparkbad. The Noorderparkbad won the Amsterdam Architecture Prize in 2016. This section also features an event field. You will find smaller lawns, a playground, and a tennis court here. Also, you can discover the French restaurant Pompet and buurthuis Het Bloemenkwartier.

Small-scale cultural activities take place here. These activities also occur in the repurposed gas stations. These are the Roze Tanker and De Gele Pomp. The eastern part, once Volewijkspark, offers lawns, a playground, and a paddling pool.

The Noorderklankpark Installation adds to this park’s artistic allure. It is a testament to Amsterdam’s blend of nature and urban life. It invites us to listen closely to the sounds of the city. It encourages us to appreciate the beauty of its green spaces. It is more than just an installation. It is an experience that stays with you long after you leave.
