Right here we are face to face with a monumental tribute. It’s the Muurschildering Johan Cruijff Mural. This artwork immortalizes a football legend.

The Muurschildering Johan Cruijff Mural is more than just paint on a wall. It represents the spirit of Amsterdam and the legacy of one of its greatest sons. The mural is found in Amsterdam-Watergraafsmeer.

In 2017, this portrait of Johan Cruijff was painted on the side of a residential flat. The flat stands on Anfieldroad. This road intersects Wembleylaan. These streets lie on the former grounds of AFC Ajax’s old stadium. It was called Stadion De Meer. The streets in this area are named after famous football stadiums. They recall Ajax’s glory days in the early 1970s. Even the bridges are named after the team’s legendary players.

Look closely. The brick wall provides a textured backdrop. The flat overlooks Betondorp. This is Johan Cruijff’s birthplace.

Paulo Consentino, a Brazilian street artist, created this stunning piece. He has painted football-related murals worldwide. Realizing his dream to honor Cruijff he painted this mural with help from local youth. It took them eleven days to complete.

The Muurschildering Johan Cruijff Mural was sponsored by several organizations. These included Legacy of John Cruyff, the Johan Cruyff Foundation and Akzo Nobel.

The unveiling ceremony was held on May 9, 2017. Danny Cruijff, Johan’s widow, and Eberhard van der Laan, the Mayor of Amsterdam at that time, revealed the mural. Peter Heerschop, a football enthusiast and local resident, hosted the event. Sjaak Swart and Wim Suurbier, Johan Cruijff’s former teammates, were also present.

The Muurschildering Johan Cruijff Mural stands 13 meters high and 8 meters wide. The location is full of symbolism. It is near the old Ajax stadium and opposite Betondorp.

The Muurschildering Johan Cruijff Mural captures the essence of Johan Cruijff. He was not just a player. He was a symbol of Amsterdam’s footballing pride. This mural ensures his legacy lives on. It inspires future generations. This tribute is a testament to his impact on the sport and the city.
