Designed by Frederick Walters, imagine the Church of the Most Precious Blood rising in Southwark. This Roman Catholic church stands on O’Meara Street. It serves the Parish of the Most Precious Blood.

The parish was established in 1891. Bishop John Baptist Butt founded it. He used a bequest of 10,000 pounds. The church’s construction cost 7,000 pounds including the presbytery.

In 2014, the church received Grade II listing on the National Heritage List for England. This designation includes the presbytery, forecourt walls, and shrine. The shrine honors Our Lady of Lourdes. Some call her Our Lady of All Nations. Dedicated in 1957, it features Sicilian marble. Flint from Norfolk lines its niche.

Denis Evinson described the interior. He said it is warm and welcoming and uncluttered. His description appears in Catholic Churches of London.

Two bells reside here. The Whitechapel Bell Foundry made them. They were installed in 1956. The Stations of the Cross grace the interior walls. Swiss artist Matthias Zens created them from terracotta.

Mass times vary. Sunday offers services at 9:30 AM and 11:00 AM. Weekdays provide Mass at 1:05 PM. Holy Days see services at 6:30 PM. Remember, the weekday Mass suspends in August and the Church closes.

Confessions are available. You can confess Tuesday through Friday from 12:30 PM to 12:55 PM. Saturday offers confessions from 10:00 AM to 10:25 AM. The parish joined the Personal Ordinariate of Our Lady of Walsingham in 2013.

The Most Precious Blood fosters a family-oriented environment. It builds a strong sense of community. Fr. Christopher Pearson OLW leads the parish. His sermons are intelligent and consistent.

The church stands a short walk from Borough Market. Its location is accessible. The marble floor impresses visitors. Thoughtful renovations preserve its spiritual essence. Modern designs are not excessive here. The Most Precious Blood welcomes all. Its history and architecture invite reflection.
