Opened in 2003, the Lijnderbrug isn’t just a bridge. It’s a modern marvel connecting the bustling energy of Amsterdam to the quieter charm of Lijnden. This drawbridge, spanning the Ringvaart of the Haarlemmermeerpolder, stands tall at over 4 meters. The Lijnderbrug links Badhoevedorp and the Airport Business Park Lijnden with Osdorp and De Aker. The bridge carries the Amsterdamse Baan (T106) on one side and the Ookmeerweg (s106) on the other. Imagine the constant flow of cars across the Lijnderbrug. It’s a vital artery for commerce and commuters. But the Lijnderbrug isn’t just for vehicles. A separate bicycle path runs alongside the roadway. It’s a popular route for cyclists traveling between Schiphol, Badhoevedorp, Lijnden, and Osdorp. The Lijnderbrug is thoughtfully designed. Notice the noise barriers. They’re there to minimize disturbance for the residents along the Akerdijk. This bridge opens on request, but only if you call ahead. During weekdays, the Lijnderbrug caters primarily to commercial vessels from 6:00 to 7:00 and 18:00 to 20:00. However, openings for recreational boats occur between 9:00 and 16:00. So, if you’re planning a boat trip, remember to call the number provided by the municipality at least one workday in advance. Don’t forget, on Saturdays, you can only request an opening between 9:00 and 12:00. And unfortunately, the bridge does not operate on Sundays or public holidays. The Lijnderbrug stands as a testament to modern engineering and thoughtful urban planning. It gracefully facilitates the flow of traffic and travel. It also respects the peace of its neighbors. It offers a seamless transition between urban and suburban landscapes.
