Perhaps you have wondered about the building nicknamed “the shoe”. It is also known as “de kruimeldief,” Dutch for handheld vacuum cleaner. This is Infinity. It was formerly the headquarters of ING Group in Amsterdam’s Zuidas business district.
The postmodern design is by Meyer and Van Schooten Architecten. Construction took place from November 1999 to September 2002. Heijmans undertook the construction.
Now, picture this table. This building is constructed like a table on 16 angled steel legs. Each leg rests on pins in large concrete blocks. This technique is also used in bridge construction. The floors are built on this platform. The belly of Infinity on the second floor is at highway height. The ground is lower than the highway. From the third floor, you can see the highway.
ING Group moved its headquarters in 2012. Nationale-Nederlanden, an ING subsidiary, moved from the building in 2014. Since then, the building has been a multi-tenant office building. That is why it is now called “Infinity”.
Inside Infinity, a “new type of classic” was the goal. Casper Schwarz Architects designed the interior for the top three floors. They wanted new values in refinement and detailing. This would form a timeless piece.
The tenant wanted representative meeting areas. They also wanted functional work zones. They envisioned lively, urban-style break-out spaces too. The interior is a refined composition. It features natural stones and glass elements. Excessive artworks and raw wood add character. Acoustic fabrics and stainless steel complete the look. The design perfects the technical architecture of Infinity. The interior stands out from the mainstream. It sets its own standards.
Infinity is located next to the A10 highway and Amstelveenseweg metro station. You can park in the underground car park. This gives you access to the grand entrance hall. The Office Operators are also located here.
Consider joining the flex network. A business lounge membership gives you access to flex seats. These are in social areas and the lobby. The flex spaces include high-speed internet. A print account and Nespresso coffee are also included. This lets you focus on your core business.
The building is energy-efficient. It includes a lobby, auditorium, and restaurant. Six gardens are located within the building. Infinity stands as a testament to innovative design. It also provides a modern workspace in Amsterdam’s bustling business district. Its unique shape and sustainable features make it a landmark.
