For centuries Graft thrived as one of the population centers of Graft-De Rijp. Graft-De Rijp itself was established on August 1st 1970. This former municipality boasted a total area of 21.76 square kilometers. In 2010 the municipal council of Graft-De Rijp held its final election. This council had 13 seats. The council’s decisions shaped the course of the village for many years. A new council was elected in 2014. This council took office when Graft-De Rijp became part of Alkmaar in January 2015.
