Faljeril, a hidden gem nestled in the Kagerplassen. What secrets does this small island hold? Faljeril is a northern islet in the Kagerplassen, a lake area north of Leiden. This tranquil island, approximately 4 hectares in size, has a unique history. Imagine, before 1935, Faljeril was undeveloped. Its transformation began in that year, shaping the island into the haven it is today. Faljeril was initially drained by a small poldermolen, known as the Faljerilmolen. Today, Faljeril boasts a collection of houses, some inhabited only part of the year. Several houseboats also find a permanent mooring along its shores. To the east, across the Gravenwater, lies the larger island of Kaag. Faljeril offers a peaceful retreat, a secluded escape within the beautiful Kagerplassen.
