Did you know the Dappermarkt ranks among the world’s top shopping streets? National Geographic Traveler placed it alongside giants like Istanbul’s Grand Bazaar and Milan’s Navigli Antique Market. Right here, in Amsterdam Oost, the Dappermarkt thrives. The market stretches along Dapperstraat. It’s a vibrant hub reflecting the diverse community. People from Suriname, Africa, Asia, and Eastern Europe call this area home. The Dappermarkt pulsates with their energy and exotic flavors. The Dappermarkt isn’t just about the 250 stalls and 160 merchants. It’s an experience. Cafés line both sides of Dapperstraat, offering a place to relax and soak it all in. The surrounding shops overflow with general goods, clothes, shoes, and exotic foods. Discover Turkish delights at Hilal bakery. Find fresh cuts at Sera, the Islamic butcher. Explore the flavors of Suriname at Tropicamax, where you’ll also find African cosmetics. The Dappermarkt is a bargain hunter’s paradise. You’ll find low-cost fruits, food products, and exotic cuisine. For a wider selection, explore the shops around the market. The Dappermarkt website lists special events. There are days with live music, a Ladies Day on March 8th, and a Christmas Gala. A word of caution: be mindful of pickpockets, as in any bustling market. The Dappermarkt opens from 9 am to 5 pm, Monday through Saturday. It’s an easy 5-minute walk from the Tropenmuseum and 15 minutes from Waterlooplein market. Trams 3, 7, 9, 10, and 14 will also bring you here. Buses 22, 37, and 41 stop nearby. Arrive by train at Muiderstation. During summer, a canal boat from Muziekgebouw aan ‘t IJ (near Central Station) offers a scenic route. The boat stops at Dapper dock on Mauritskade, right at the market entrance. If you’re driving, take the S116 exit from the A10 ring road. Follow signs for Artis, and Dapperstraat begins at Mauritskade. Metered parking is available on the side streets.
