The roar of engines still echoes here. This is CM.com Circuit Zandvoort. Feel the legacy.
CM.com Circuit Zandvoort isn’t just a racetrack. It’s a living testament to speed passion and Dutch history. Opened in 1948 its story began on communications roads built by the German army during World War II. It wasn’t designed by John Hugenholtz as many believe. Instead 1927 Le Mans winner Sammy Davis advised on the layout. The existing roads partly dictated the track’s unique shape.
The first race the Prijs van Zandvoort took place here on August 7 1948. It later became the Dutch Grand Prix a fixture on the Formula One calendar until 1985. The track faced challenges. Noise pollution affected nearby residents. A plan emerged to move a section of the track away from homes. The circuit was nearly lost but a new foundation saved it. In 1989 CM.com Circuit Zandvoort reopened as a smaller Club Circuit.
A major upgrade followed. In 2001 a new Grand Prix Circuit emerged. It hosted major events like the RTL Masters of Formula 3 and A1 Grand Prix races. A noise restriction temporarily moved the Masters to Belgium. However the race returned to Zandvoort.
Formula One returned in 2021 after a long absence. The Dutch Grand Prix was revived. This thrilling partnership is set to end in 2026. Several upgrades modernized the track. Banking was added to turns 3 and 14. The famous Tarzanbocht hairpin remains a key overtaking spot. Legend says its name comes from a local known as Tarzan who protected his vegetable garden.
CM.com Circuit Zandvoort is more than just fast corners and famous drivers. It’s a place where history and high-octane thrills collide. A testament to perseverance innovation and the enduring love of motorsport in the heart of the Netherlands. It boasts a unique history of modifications.
