Established in 1940, Beverwijkse Hockeyclub Overbos has a rich history. It’s more than just a sports club; it’s a community hub. The club emerged from a merger between two local hockey clubs, Eechtrop and Scheybeeck, in 1991. This union created Beverwijkse Hockeyclub Overbos, solidifying its presence in Beverwijk. Originally, the club was situated at the Van Loenenlaan, where Eechtrop’s fields were. Scheybeeck’s fields were on Parallelweg, where a Makro now stands. The newly formed Beverwijkse Hockeyclub Overbos inherited a complex featuring one artificial turf field and three grass fields. Following the merger, the municipality of Beverwijk invested in expanding the clubhouse. They also converted two grass fields into artificial turf, giving Beverwijkse Hockeyclub Overbos three artificial turf pitches and one grass field. The grass field was later replaced by a pond near the Beverwijk sports hall to accommodate the growing membership. Beverwijkse Hockeyclub Overbos began with around 400 members, with a small youth section. Today, the club boasts around 950 members, with approximately 600 youth players. This expansion led to a shortage of fields at Sportpark Overbos. The club collaborated with other local sports clubs to develop a unified sports park called Sportpark Adrichem. In 2017, the municipality approved a fourth artificial turf field, a water-based pitch located at Sportpark Adrichem next to DEM’s football fields. It opened in May 2019. Both of Beverwijkse Hockeyclub Overbos’s first teams compete in the Eerste Klasse. The club participates in IJmond Hockey, sponsored by Rabobank IJmond, alongside HC Spaarndam, KHC Strawberries, and MHC Uitgeest. Their clothing sponsor is Intersport Veldhuis.
