Is there a more glamorous name in London’s nightlife than Annabel’s? Right here, at 46 Berkeley Square, stands a legend. Annabel’s isn’t just a nightclub; it’s an institution, a time capsule of glamour and exclusivity. It began its journey in 1963, born from the vision of Mark Birley. He named this haven of high society after his wife, Lady Annabel Vane-Tempest-Stewart. The original Annabel’s, just two doors down at number 44, was a more intimate affair, tucked away in the basement of the Clermont Club. But what it lacked in size, it more than made up for in reputation. Imagine a sea of elegant figures dancing the night away. Royalty like Princess Diana and even Queen Elizabeth II herself have graced these hallowed halls. Music legends like Ray Charles and Ella Fitzgerald have brought down the house. Annabel’s has seen it all. This new location, however, is a spectacle. Reopened in 2018, every corner whispers of extravagance. A Picasso graces the entrance hall beneath chandeliers once belonging to a Russian Tsar. There’s a powder room so lavish that some might mistake it for a palace, while a jungle-themed bathroom boasts a washbasin carved from a single piece of onyx. Today, Annabel’s still holds onto its air of exclusivity, but it also embraces the modern. Its membership, while still elite, has diversified. And while the dress code remains strict, it has a playful side too. It seems that after nearly 60 years, Annabel’s has found the secret to staying timeless. It allows itself to evolve without sacrificing its soul, its dedication to providing an unparalleled experience of luxury and enjoyment. Now, that’s something worth toasting to, wouldn’t you say?
