Ever wondered about the story behind this seemingly quiet corner of Passau? This is Patriching. It is more than just a place on the map. Patriching is a district in the Passau region of Hacklberg.

Let’s journey back in time. Patriching along with Korona, Dietzing and Unterdietzing was once part of the Hacklberg office. This was under the jurisdiction of the Passau Monastery. In 1808 things changed. These places became part of the Hacklberg tax district. This district evolved into the Hacklberg municipality. Then in 1972 a significant change occurred. As part of regional reforms Hacklberg including Patriching became part of the city of Passau.

The late 1990s brought further transformation. The four separate villages merged. They became the unified district known as Patriching/St Korona.

Now let’s turn our attention to a special landmark. It is the Expositurkirche St Korona. Construction spanned from 1635 to 1641. It was consecrated on April 21 1641. This former pilgrimage church features an altar painting. It depicts the martyrdom of St Korona. Passau painter Matthias Lettenpichler may have created it around 1675. Extensive renovations concluded in 2001.

Patriching also offers educational facilities. The Kindergarten St Korona nurtures young minds.

What about the local economy? Patriching is home to Werk 2 of ZF Friedrichshafen AG also known as ZF Passau. It also houses the headquarters of Carl Beutlhauser Baumaschinen GmbH. You’ll also find Prinz Verlag here. They produce stamp albums and foil pockets. Holz Mayrhofer GmbH a wood trading company also calls Patriching home.

Community spirit thrives in Patriching. Several clubs and organizations contribute to local life. These include the Kindergarten Support Association. There is also the Catholic German Women’s Association. You will find a seniors club, a church choir and DJK Eintracht Patriching e.V. The Volunteer Fire Brigade Passau-Patriching e.V. is also located here.

Did you know that Patriching also has a cemetery? It was inaugurated on September 19 1971 as Hacklberg’s new cemetery. It’s often called the cemetery on Hacklberg. Since 1999 the cemetery includes a special section for Muslims. This area is marked by a sign from the city. A unique feature is the uniform black tombstone design. It consists of a dome with two suggested minarets. Above the names and dates is the return verse. Most graves use this tombstone.

So as we conclude our visit to Patriching remember its rich history. It is a place where tradition and progress meet. It is a vibrant community within the city of Passau.
