Tucked away in the vibrant tapestry of Amsterdam, the Amsterdam International Community School (AICS) stands as a testament to the city’s global embrace. The Amsterdam International Community School isn’t just a school. It’s a microcosm of the world, nestled within this historically rich city. Founded in 2003, the Amsterdam International Community School has blossomed into a diverse learning hub. It nurtures over 2000 students from a vast array of cultures and nationalities. The Amsterdam International Community School is part of the Esprit Scholengroep. This school is more than just bricks and mortar. It represents connection, understanding, and a shared future for students aged 4 to 18. Imagine children from all corners of the world learning, playing, and growing together within its walls. The Amsterdam International Community School offers both primary and secondary education. Students even have the chance to pursue the IB Diploma and the IB Career-related Programme diploma. The Amsterdam International Community School has two main campuses. The South campus, a brand new building designed by Mecanoo architects, opened its doors in 2022 on Arent Janszoon Ernststraat. The South East campus, housed in the repurposed Sand Castle, a former ING headquarters, opened in 2023 in Bijlmerplein. These two campuses are the heart of AICS. They beat with the energy of diverse perspectives and a shared commitment to learning. AICS also had a Satellite campus, which served students from 2016 to 2023. It closed to merge with the other two campuses. The Amsterdam International Community School’s history reflects the city’s own dynamic spirit. The South campus began near the WTC in 2007. Before finding its permanent home, the primary and secondary sections moved between various locations, including the Wodanstraat, Hygieaplein, and Uiterwaardenstraat. The South East campus began its journey in 2018 on President Brandstraat, then moved to a modular building on Darlingstraat in 2019, and finally settled in the Sand Castle in 2023. The Amsterdam International Community School embodies a commitment to community-based international learning. It’s a place where students don’t just learn about the world. They experience it firsthand through the rich tapestry of their classmates’ cultures and backgrounds. It’s a place where diversity is celebrated, and where students are empowered to become compassionate and wise global citizens.
