Intriguing isn’t it? This isn’t just any angel. This is the Fallen Angel installation. It’s a striking piece isn’t it? Right here in Amsterdam.

Dennis Rudolph created this captivating work. It’s part of a larger multimedia project. Rudolph a Berlin-based artist blends painting with virtual and augmented reality. His work explores failed utopian visions and apocalypses in history. He connects these to our modern image culture.

The Fallen Angel installation isn’t just paintings. It’s a multi-sensory experience. Rudolph uses a unique style he calls Neon-Baroque. His angels are a fascinating mix. They combine 17th-century frescoes with bright digital effects.

He uses Google TiltBrush a VR program. This allows him to paint three-dimensionally in virtual reality. Then he brings these paintings into augmented reality. You can see this with an iPad or HoloLens headset. These digital angels float as holograms interacting with Rudolph’s oil paintings.

The exhibition has two parts. One room shows angels painted over Hollywood movie logos. The Seven Angels of the Apocalypse are depicted. The other room uses science fiction movie stills. Think Mad Max and Interstellar. These paintings depict The Annunciation another biblical scene. Each painting stands alone. But together they create a narrative you can experience with the HoloLens.

Rudolph began using Google TiltBrush in 2017. He was fascinated by the immateriality of the process. His art is both present and absent simultaneously. The virtual reality changed how he paints in real life. There’s a unique interplay between virtual and real. The TiltBrush effects create a physical presence for the holograms. They emerge from two-dimensional paintings into three-dimensional space.

The final artwork combines oil paintings augmented reality and music. It’s like Wagner meets Hollywood a Gesamtkunstwerk. But unlike perfect Hollywood illusions Rudolph’s work includes glitches and cracks. These show the fragility of our reality.

So take a moment. Absorb the detail and artistry. Notice the blend of old and new the real and virtual. It’s a work that challenges how we see art. How we see reality itself. This Fallen Angel isn’t just fallen. It’s a reflection of us our hopes our failures our constructed realities.
