A haven for art lovers exists here. Galerie Kunst 2001 is open to visitors. It is located in Badhoevedorp. Specifically, you will find it at Snelliuslaan 35.
Kunst 2001 is usually open on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The opening hours are from 13:00 to 16:00. Exceptions may occur during summer and Christmas recesses. You can enjoy the exhibitions anytime the Dorpshuis is open. This is only possible through glass and without a host.
Visiting Kunst 2001 is quite straightforward. If you are coming by bus, several lines can get you close. Lines 192 and 195 stop at Kamerlingh Onneslaan. From there, it is a short walk. If you take lines 194 or 356, get off at Badhoevedorp Oost. Then you have a longer walk or need to switch to bus 192 or 195.
For those driving from Utrecht, take the A2 towards Amsterdam. Then switch to the A9 towards Haarlem. Take the Badhoevedorp exit. From Amsterdam, use the A10 ring road. Head towards The Hague/Schiphol on the A4. Then take the A9 towards Haarlem and exit at Badhoevedorp. Coming from Haarlem, take the A9 towards Amsterdam/Utrecht. Exit at Badhoevedorp. Kunst 2001 is also accessible via the old Schipholweg. Note that the final part of Einsteinlaan is closed to car traffic. Approach from Kamerlingh Onneslaan via Keizersweg and Snelliuslaan.
Did you know that KunstRAI has a rich history itself? It is an annual art fair. It showcases modern and contemporary art. The fair takes place at the RAI Exhibition and Convention Centre in Amsterdam. KunstRAI has been around since 1985. It traditionally occurs in the second week of May. Wim van Krimpen founded the Art Fair Foundation.
In 1996, Art Amsterdam merged with KunstRAI. Anneke Oele became the director in 2002. She reduced participation to a smaller number of galleries. In 2006, KunstRAI was renamed Art Amsterdam. This was to emphasize its international character.
For its 27th edition in 2012, organizers reduced the number of galleries. They also moved the fair to the Kromhouthal. The name KunstRAI was revived for a May art fair at the RAI Centre. This edition featured only Dutch galleries. It was a more spontaneous fair. One gallery owner noted the freedom and lack of rules.
Notably, the 2012 KunstRAI featured a unique artwork. Bart Jansen created the Orvillecopter. It was his dead cat turned into a radio-controlled helicopter.
Since 2016, KunstRAI has focused on a foreign guest city or country each year. Past focuses included Berlin, Antwerp, Barcelona, Japan and Morocco.
The KDR KunstRAI prize became the Lecturis Award in 2011. It recognizes promising young artists. Edward Clydesdale Thomson won in 2011.
