Journey with me to 1946, a time of rebuilding and renewal in the Netherlands after the ravages of World War II. Two visionary engineers, Willem Gerrit Witteveen, a seasoned city architect, and Goosen Siger Bos, a young and driven civil engineer, saw the immense need for reconstruction and decided to join forces. Together they founded Witteveen+Bos, right here in the Netherlands. Their first project, the Prinz-Bernhard-Schleuse in Deventer, marked the beginning of their incredible journey. Witteveen+Bos quickly grew from its humble beginnings, expanding its expertise from water management and infrastructure to encompass environmental concerns and complex construction projects. Witteveen+Bos is now among the top ten engineering and consultancy firms in the Netherlands. Today, Witteveen+Bos, with over 1,500 employees worldwide and 23 offices in 9 countries, tackles nearly 5,000 projects annually. The company’s reach extends far beyond Dutch borders, with projects in Belgium, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Russia, Vietnam, Latvia, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, and Ghana. From the Oosterweel connection in Antwerp to the master plan in Jakarta, Witteveen+Bos continues to shape the world we live in. Interestingly, Witteveen+Bos is entirely employee-owned. This unique structure fosters a culture of entrepreneurship and shared success, where every employee has a stake in the company’s future. This ownership model fuels their commitment to providing top-quality designs and innovative solutions for a better future. So, as you stand here, consider the impact of Witteveen+Bos, a company born from the ashes of war that continues to build and innovate for a brighter tomorrow.
