The impact isn’t just about the social activities. It’s in the very structure itself. From 2012 onwards MidWest had a plan. Step by step they made the building sustainable and climate-resistant. They succeeded. MidWest now stands as a testament to community effort and environmental consciousness. MidWest makes a difference. It provides affordable and accessible spaces for cultural and social initiatives. Revenue from renting rooms and workspaces funds programming. MidWest is the brainchild of Arnoud Hekkens Nathalie van Hoeven and Anita Groenink. Anita Groenink and Bram Budel lead the organization. A supervisory board including Polle Janssens Karin Kuiper and Frank Verheul provides oversight. MidWest operates from the Cabralstraat. It’s open Wednesday to Friday from 9 am to 6 pm and Saturday from 12 pm to 6 pm. The MidWest café is a central feature. It’s a place for co-working socializing and community events. MidWest also boasts a Sjoelclub. This is a network for active and enterprising people in Amsterdam West. Members enjoy speaker events discussion evenings workshops and cultural performances.
