“A school with a history” whispers the wind rustling through the leaves of the ancient trees near the Adalbert-Stifter-Gymnasium. This isn’t just any school. It’s a place steeped in history. A place where generations of students have learned grown and dreamed.

The Adalbert-Stifter-Gymnasium stands proudly in Passau. It’s named after the famous Austrian writer painter and pedagogue Adalbert Stifter. His influence echoes through the halls. The school’s roots trace back to 1833. It started as a county trade school. Over time it transformed into a county secondary modern school then into a senior high school.

In 1964 a modern language branch was added. The following year it became a full-fledged grammar school. Both a mathematical-scientific and a modern language branch existed. Since 1964 it’s occupied its current location on Innstrasse. For many years it participated in a project called MODUS21. This was a model program for developing self-confidence and social skills.

Imagine a huge expansion in 2006 and 2007. A new school wing was added thanks to the G8 program. The expansion created a full-day school. After-school care was offered until 430 pm. The project cost 189 million euros. The city of Passau covered part of the cost. The new building also features elevators. This makes the building accessible to people with disabilities.

The new building adds 494 square meters of space. It includes a library a workroom a recreation room a multi-purpose room and a dining hall. The multi-purpose room even has a stage perfect for theatrical productions. Today students can choose between a science-technology track or a language track. A third foreign language is offered from the eighth grade.

The Adalbert-Stifter-Gymnasium is a training school for student teachers. Subjects include biology chemistry German English French computer science art and mathematics. From 2000 to 2010 the school published a student newspaper called Rückenwind. This magazine had over 100 pages and 700 copies were printed. It even won awards including being named one of the best student newspapers in Germany.

Notable alumni include politicians writers artists and academics. Their achievements reflect the school’s commitment to excellence. The Adalbert-Stifter-Gymnasium is more than just a school. It’s a vibrant community a center of learning and a testament to the enduring power of education. It’s a place where history unfolds daily. It’s a place where the future is being shaped.
