Tee off into Amsterdam’s golfing history. Right before you stands the Amsterdamse Golf Club a testament to the city’s enduring love for the sport. Established in 1934 it’s one of the Netherlands’ oldest golf clubs. Imagine Amsterdam in 1934. The city buzzed with activity. Yet amidst the urban energy a quiet revolution began. The Amsterdamse Golf Club was born. It secured a plot near Duivendrecht. This land was deemed suitable for a future railway expansion. The club thrived there for decades.

The club’s original course designed by Harry Colt boasted 18 holes. Water features and wooded areas defined its park-like layout. The Amsterdamse Golf Club wasn’t just about the game. It fostered a strong sense of community. Members enjoyed friendly competitions and social events. Bridge nights became a regular tradition.

However this idyllic setting faced a challenge. The planned railway expansion loomed. The club faced displacement. Negotiations with the city eventually led to a relocation. The club found a new home near Halfweg a former potato field. The relocation involved acquiring roughly 60 hectares of land. The new location bordered Spaarnwoude recreation area. Our club purchased additional land for parking a driving range and eventually a six-hole practice course.

Architect Paul Rolin shaped the new 18-hole course. A new clubhouse from Finnhouse a Finnish company that specialized in building wooden clubhouses completed the scene. The move marked a new chapter. The new course opened on September 21 1990. The transition was seamless thanks to a merger with Mariënweide. Mariënweide lacked a course but had many enthusiastic players who joined the Amsterdamse Golf Club.

Today the Amsterdamse Golf Club continues to thrive. Its 18-hole course remains a popular destination for golfers. The club prides itself on its member-centric approach. No tee times are needed. A warm atmosphere and excellent facilities create a welcoming environment. The course itself showcases stunning parkland scenery. It offers a challenging but enjoyable experience for all skill levels. The Amsterdamse Golf Club is a vibrant reminder that even in a bustling city. There is space for quiet enjoyment. For a leisurely game of golf and a bit of history. This is the place to be.
