Beneath our feet lies the foundation of Pier G2 at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. This is no ordinary pier. It represents Amsterdam Airport Schiphol’s commitment to growth and sustainability.

Pier G2 handles international flights. It can even accommodate the massive Airbus A380. It is a crucial part of Schiphol’s plan to remain a top European airport.

In 2015, Schiphol served 58 million passengers. It managed 1.6 million tonnes of cargo. There were over 450,000 aircraft movements. To handle this increasing traffic, expansion was essential. Pier G2 was a key part of the solution. The goal was to increase the airport’s annual capacity by 14 million passengers.

Construction of Pier G2 began after final approval in March 2015. The pier sits west of Pier B near cargo station 1. It connects to the south of the existing terminal. The new pier became operational in late 2019.

Pier G2 can park three wide-body and five to eleven narrow-body aircraft. The south side is flexible. It can handle one wide-body and two narrow-body aircraft. Two more wide-body gates were planned for later.

The foundations were laid in early 2018. This involved removing 20,000 square meters of concrete. Over 1,000 piles were driven into the ground.

Schiphol chose the design from team AECOM – cepezed. They collaborated with Imd, dGmR, and Copijn. The pier features five gates for narrow-body aircraft on the north side. It has three gates for wide-body aircraft on the south side. The south side gates can also handle six narrow-body aircraft.

Spanning 55,000 square meters, Pier G2 equals 11 football pitches. It is the most sustainable pier at Schiphol. Its design includes biomaterial, insulating glass, and reusable plastic. Marble rubblework tiles add to its eco-friendly features. Schiphol installed 5,000 square meters of solar panels. Rainwater is used to flush the toilets.

Royal Schiphol Group managed the expansion projects. They operated under the Capital Programme. This program ensures the airport continues normal operations during construction. The expansion requires specific knowledge and experience. Schiphol brings this expertise together in the Capital Programme.

Herpa makes a 1:500 scale model of Pier G. It is made of plastic. The model comes fully assembled. A set of eight jetways is available separately. A ground foil is also available. Building elements connect the two piers.

Pier G2 exemplifies Amsterdam Airport Schiphol’s vision. It is a modern, efficient, and sustainable aviation hub. It ensures Schiphol remains a preferred airport for airlines and passengers.
