“Leylijnplekken?” I hear you ask. The Petruskerk in Amsterdam-Sloterdijk is more than just a pretty building. It may be a place of powerful earth energies.

This protestant church stands in what was once the village of Sloterdijk. Now, it is part of Amsterdam-West. The Petruskerk has a long and fascinating past.

The first mention of a church here dates back to 1465. It was likely built even earlier. Back then, it was Sloterdijk’s Roman Catholic church. The village was located on the IJ. The church benefited from the Slotermeer’s rich fishing catches.

In 1572, the Geuzen set the building on fire. After repairs, services resumed in 1578. But now, they were Protestant services. The name changed from Sint Petruskerk to Petruskerk.

The Petruskerk was rebuilt in 1663. Its appearance has remained the same since then. However, the surroundings have changed dramatically. It’s hard to imagine that the village once stood on the IJ.

The construction of Sloterdijk train station in 1956 had consequences. The Coentunnelweg highway and industrial areas also had effects. Almost the entire village had to make way. Only the Petruskerk, its cemetery, and a few houses were spared.

In 1979, the church became a Rijksmonument. This designation protects buildings of national importance.

But there is more. Some believe the Petruskerk is located on a leylijn. These are alignments of ancient sites. They are believed to carry spiritual energy.

Standing here, I feel a special energy. It’s strong yet gentle. Walking around the church and cemetery, I sense its presence everywhere. It seems strongest at the front and back of the church. The bench near the main entrance offers a peaceful resting spot.

Everything feels still here. It is a beautiful place. Especially considering the busy A10 ring road, the industrial area, and train tracks. The age of the village and church reminds me of a distant past.

Powerful ley centers may be present here. It wouldn’t surprise me if Sloterdijk originated because of these leylijnen. The Petruskerk is the center. It is where the ley center is located.

The Petruskerk is not only a monument. It is also a wedding location. Imagine getting married in this historic place. Surrounded by highways and railways, it is a small village oasis.

The Petruskerk continues to be a vibrant center. Today, it is a backdrop for special occasions. Music performances, receptions, and even funerals take place here. The church bells can ring. A red carpet can be rolled out. The flag can be raised.

Behind the Petruskerk is the Consistorie. It is a perfectly restored wooden building from the 18th century. Over the years, it has served many purposes. Now, it is used as a dressing room for performers. It also serves as a meeting room for small groups.

Take a moment to appreciate the Petruskerk. It is a survivor. It has witnessed centuries of change. It stands as a testament to faith, resilience, and perhaps, unseen energies. A place where history and mystery intertwine.
