243 homes. That’s what the Fibonacci-reeks building in Amsterdam houses. This isn’t just any apartment complex. It’s a testament to innovative urban design. Nestled between a railway and the bustling Panamalaan it stands as a striking example of how to maximize space without sacrificing livability.

The Fibonacci-reeks project began in 2015. The architects faced a unique challenge. The plot was oddly shaped. It was also small. Finding a way to build affordable housing on such a site was difficult. Traditional approaches just wouldn’t work. Developer VORM however took a different approach. They brought all the stakeholders together. This collaborative approach helped overcome the challenges. Diederendirrix the supervising architect created a beautiful design. It’s a design that’s both unique and easy to construct.

Prefabrication was key to the project’s success. The building’s elements were constructed elsewhere. This included the main structure floors facades windows and even kitchens and bathrooms. Each floor was essentially an assembly kit. This meant less construction time on site. It reduced disruption to the neighborhood. Construction was completed in just 2.5 years.

Look closely. Notice the graduated design. The three building volumes are subtly rotated. This gives the Fibonacci-reeks a different look from every angle. The apartments are relatively small studios. They are a mix of social and mid-range rental units. Stadgenoot and Rockfield Real Estate manage the properties. Soundproof facades ensure quiet despite the nearby railway and city activity. Instead of traditional balconies the building features communal atria and roof terraces. These provide outdoor spaces where residents can relax and socialize.

The Fibonacci-reeks building isn’t just about housing. It’s about community. There are shared facilities. These include a launderette and bicycle repair shop. Large roof gardens offer green spaces. They are located on the lower building sections. Even the tallest tower has a green roof. The Fibonacci-reeks is also designed to be eco-friendly. There are nest boxes on the facades. There are also insect hotels in the gardens. It’s a vibrant example of urban renewal. A place where people and nature can coexist. This is the Fibonacci-reeks a true marvel of urban design and sustainable living in the heart of Amsterdam.
