“Isn’t it charming?” I ask gesturing towards the Juffershuis. This delightful building is more than just a pretty face. It’s the oldest structure on Buitenplaats Leyduin. The Juffershuis also known as the Tweelinghuis has a rich history. Imagine the well-to-do families who once graced its halls.

The Juffershuis was fully renovated between 2016 and 2017. Now it houses Gasterij Leyduin a restaurant and inn. It’s a perfect spot for hikers and cyclists. They can relax by the fireplace or enjoy a meal in the upstairs dining room. From there you have a wonderful view of the surrounding forest.

Picture this. You’re seated in the cozy restaurant. You sip your Nespresso. You savor pastries from Holtkamp. The air is filled with the aroma of delicious apple pie from Haarlem’s Appeltaart Imperium. Outside the many birds sing. Perhaps you might even catch a glimpse of a deer. This area is known for its wildlife.

The Juffershuis’s restoration was made possible through contributions from various sources. These include patrons the Province of North Holland and the Leyduin Friends. It’s a testament to community spirit and the importance of preserving history. The warm family atmosphere of the original Juffershuis is still palpable.

Today the Juffershuis is more than a restaurant. It’s a place where history culinary delights and the beauty of nature come together. It’s a place that evokes a sense of peace and tranquility a place where you can truly escape the hustle and bustle of city life and appreciate the simple pleasures in life. So let’s raise a glass to the Juffershuis a symbol of resilience charm and enduring beauty.
