Marvelous music fills the air. This is the Muziektent in Schellingwoude. A charming musical monument it stands proudly. It’s one of only three remaining Waterland music pavilions. Built in 1923 it celebrates Queen Wilhelmina’s 25th anniversary.

The Muziektent is more than just a pretty building. It’s a testament to history. It was constructed by unemployed shipbuilders. Local musicians helped too. They were guided by Cornelis Schreuder a Ransdorp carpenter. The materials came from the city of Amsterdam. Amsterdam had recently annexed several Waterland villages.

For years the Muziektent fell into disrepair. Wood rot plagued the structure. The roof leaked. The paint was long overdue. The villagers couldn’t enjoy music from their beloved pavilion. That all changed when Stadsherstel took over. Stadsherstel was restoring the nearby Schellingwouderkerk. They also took on the Muziektent.

The Muziektent wasn’t just threatened by neglect. A new housing development also threatened it. Stadsherstel stepped in. They bought the pavilion in 2006. That same year the restored Muziektent reopened. It became a unique setting for weddings performances and other events.

Today the Muziektent continues its legacy. It’s a hub for community gatherings. Stadsherstel organizes concerts there. The Muziektent is a testament to resilience. It’s a reminder of community spirit. It’s a delightful space. It’s a perfect backdrop for joyous celebrations. This little pavilion has a big story to tell. A story of community preservation and musical heritage. Come and experience the magic of the Muziektent for yourself.
