In 2006 a partnership formed with Hong Kong International Airport. This created the Hong Kong-Zhuhai Airport Management Co Ltd. This collaboration significantly improved the airport’s operations. The airport’s expansion hasn’t stopped. A major renovation and expansion project began. This aimed to double the airport’s capacity to 27.5 million passengers a year. A new Terminal 2 was added.
