It suffered from neglect farming and invasive species. But thanks to dedicated community efforts and government initiatives the reserve is slowly being restored to its former glory. Now Zandvlei thrives. An Environmental Education Centre welcomes visitors sharing the wonders of this fragile ecosystem. The Imperial Yacht Club and Peninsula Canoe Club call Zandvlei home. Scouts even operate a Sea Scout base here. They host sailing and rowing regattas fostering a love for nature among the youth.
