Tucked away on the False Bay coast, about 5 kilometers south of Simon’s Town, lies Miller’s Point. It’s a narrow strip of land where the mountain meets the sea, dotted with giant boulders. Miller’s Point offers breathtaking views. This is the last easily accessible bay before Cape Point. The road then climbs steeply past Castle Rock to Smitswinkel Bay. Miller’s Point has two turn-offs. The first leads to a caravan site and the Black Marlin restaurant. This restaurant is known for its seafood. It’s advisable to book in advance, especially during peak season. The second turn-off leads to Rumbly Bay. Here you’ll find boat launch sites and a hidden tidal pool. Veering right offers beautiful sea views, a launch site, and the Cape Boat and Ski-Boat Club. Turning left leads to another boat launch, popular for diving. The tidal pool is between these two launch sites. It’s a short walk away and offers a water slide and stunning views of the rocky bay. You can also find sheltered natural sea pools, braai areas, and picnic spots. Miller’s Point has a rich history. Edmund Miller established a whaling station here in 1825. Whaling was banned 25 years later. The coast remained largely untouched for nearly a century. Later, the Molteno family built their holiday home here, eventually donating it to the city. It now houses the Black Marlin restaurant. Miller’s Point is now part of Table Mountain National Park. It’s a prime whale-watching location. Two deep pools just north of Miller’s Point attract southern right whales and their young.
