Zámek Brnky stands as a poignant reminder of time’s relentless march. It is located in Brnky. This area is part of the Zdiby municipality in the Praha-východ district. This castle started as a Gothic fort. It was later rebuilt into a Renaissance and Baroque château.
The village of Brnky is old. It was first mentioned in the 13th century. The first record of the fort itself is from 1591. After 1650 the Gothic fort was transformed. It became a Renaissance château. Further modifications occurred in the 18th and 19th centuries.
The current state of Zámek Brnky is rather desolate. The main building stands amidst a wasteland. Most of the farm buildings were torn down in the 1980s. After 1948 state farms neglected the site. Later socialist enterprises also failed to maintain it. After 1990 private owners also did not prioritize its preservation. In 2008 the castle roof collapsed. A partial reconstruction of the roof happened in 2012. Since then the building has continued to deteriorate. The surroundings with the former farm buildings and park are very depressing.
In 2020 the Zámek Brnky changed hands. The Orthodox Church bought it. The property is subject to a lien.

The two-story rectangular building shows its history. Gothic foundations support Renaissance and Baroque additions. The main façade faces east. It features simple Baroque designs. Walking around the castle one notices the former park. It is enclosed by a wall with an eastern gate. The farmyard is partially preserved. Cellars hint at a brewery.
