“A hidden gem,” someone murmured as we approached, their words echoing the intrigue I felt about Golf & Country Club Prague Hodkovičky. Here, nestled amidst Prague’s bustling heart, lies a golfer’s paradise. Golf & Country Club Prague Hodkovičky, established in 1983, is a testament to the vision of Jiří Velden. He dreamt of bringing the sport to Prague 4. His journey, however, was far from smooth. The initial location in Braník’s “Ve Studeném” area fell through. Now, that very spot houses one of Eastern Europe’s largest baseball facilities. Undeterred, Velden turned his gaze to Hodkovičky. The site proved challenging, but in 1995, the dream began to materialize, “step by step.” Golfland, Velden’s company, spearheaded the project. Golf & Country Club Prague Hodkovičky officially opened on June 1, 1998, offering a driving range, putting and chipping greens, and a single, dual-ended hole. This was only the first phase. The nine-hole course itself opened in 2005. This expansion continued even after a devastating flood in 2002, which caused significant damage. This flood, however, inadvertently expedited the cleanup of the entire floodplain, clearing out buildings, construction yards, and landfills. Today, Golf & Country Club Prague Hodkovičky boasts a challenging 9-hole course, measuring 2750 meters with a par of 36. Water hazards abound. The large, sculpted greens offer stunning views of the Vltava River and Vyšehrad Castle. Imagine teeing off surrounded by lush greenery, the city fading into the background. The course blends seamlessly with the landscape. Remnants of old concrete mixers and former construction yards have been incorporated into the design. Even seasoned players might not realize they’re playing on a newly constructed course. It’s a testament to the club’s commitment to creating a harmonious balance between nature and sport. So, next time you find yourself in Prague, escape the urban hustle and discover the serene oasis of Golf & Country Club Prague Hodkovičky. It’s a place where history, nature, and the love of golf intertwine.
