A vibrant sculpture stands proudly before us. It depicts knowledge and youth. This is Základní škola Bronzová a school with a rich history.
Základní škola Bronzová opened its doors on December 1 1988. It’s a primary school located near Prague’s Central Park. The school is conveniently situated near two metro stations Lužiny and Luka. The Prague 13 Municipal District established the school.
The sculpture “Knowledge and Youth” graces the school’s front. Its design inspired the school’s logo. The first principal Mgr. Evžen Mošovsky oversaw the school’s completion and equipment. Initially classes were held in seven classrooms for 55 students. Mgr. Nikolaj Hladík replaced him after his appointment as a school inspector.
In 1991 the school received accreditation. This was for extended foreign language education from the Ministry of Education. Its official name changed in 2001 to Základní škola s rozšířenou výukou jazyků. This translates to Elementary School with Extended Language Education. Mgr. Alena Šoukalová became principal in the 2019-2020 school year. Currently Mgr. Bc. Ivo Hrstka MBA leads the school.
Today Základní škola Bronzová boasts 27 classrooms. It caters to around 600 students across its two levels. The school emphasizes language learning. English is taught from the first grade. The number of English classes increases each year. It goes from one hour per week in the first grade to four in the fifth.
The school uses the Wow! method for English teaching. This interactive method uses songs videos and context-based vocabulary. The school also offers German and Spanish as additional languages. Students can choose a second language in sixth grade. Those who don’t choose a second language have additional classes in Czech math and computer science.
Základní škola Bronzová is technologically advanced. All classrooms have interactive whiteboards and Wi-Fi access. A specialized computer lab is equipped with modern computers. There’s even a 3D printer. The school also has mobile classrooms with over 50 laptops. Robotics is also taught using various robotic building sets.
The school has two gymnasiums and an outdoor sports area. This includes courts for football basketball and volleyball. Although there’s no athletics track nearby Central Park provides a suitable space for athletic activities. Students participate in various sports competitions. Seventh graders use a nearby winter stadium for ice-skating lessons during the winter months. The school also features ping-pong tables and table football. It even has relaxation areas. There is a traffic course for students to learn safe cycling practices.
In the school’s building is a modern training apartment. This is used for teaching home economics skills including cooking. There are nine after-school care units. They use the BELLhop system for child pick-up. The school also has a cinema room a library a reading corner and a canteen. An electronic ordering system is used for the school canteen. There are vending machines and a Papíromat for school supplies.
Since 2000 the school organizes the “Go Ahead with English” competition. This competition is for fifth-grade students. Many Czech and international schools participate. In the latest competition 130 students from Czech schools participated. Three language projects enhance the school’s curriculum. Two were created in collaboration with the Council on International Educational Exchange of Charles University.
The English with a Native Speaker project involves students from American universities. They teach English in the school. The Treasure Hunt project is for younger students. The Study English and Travel program invites former students. They talk about their professional and personal achievements.
Základní škola Bronzová actively organizes school trips and courses. These include trips to Great Britain Germany Poland Austria and Spain. A new addition is the RNB SCHOOL. It provides music and singing lessons. The school also offers preparatory courses for entrance exams. Since January 2025 preparatory language courses are offered in partnership with Cambridge PARK. These courses are open to the school’s students siblings friends and the wider public. A preparatory class is planned to open in 2025-2026.
