Many hiking routes are available here. Tai Lam Country Park has a well-developed network of footpaths. There are twelve named hiking routes. This ranks first among Hong Kong country parks.
One popular route starts at Ma On Kong Warden Post. It goes south along the footpath. It follows the catchwater path and Tai Lam Forest Track. This path leads uphill to Yuen Tun Viewing Point. Then you can visit Tai Lam Ecological Garden. You can also see Yuen Tun Old Village. It is next to the CAS Yuen Tun Camp.
The Tai Lam Nature Trail is another option. It is less of a nature trail. Instead, it is more of a walk up the road. The road is wide and paved. But there are still some highlights.
Along the Tai Lam Nature Trail is a tiny ecological park. It has a two-minute walking path. Butterflies flutter between the flowers. You can even identify each type using an information board. It’s a lovely area.
Be aware of the cows! A large herd may saunter out of the forest. They might cross the road. Keep your distance.
The Yuen Tun Country Trail offers a different experience. It starts with hundreds of dirt steps. This trail has constantly changing scenery. Lush fern valleys and bamboo plants surround you. Dense forests create a magical atmosphere.
Yuen Tun Viewing Point is also close to Yuen Tun Ha. Yuen Tun Ha is a village in Tai Po District. It is part of the Wilson Trail.
