Before the 1970s reclamation, it was a crucial stop for travelers and goods moving between Guangdong and Kowloon. The island housed Wong Uk Village, a vital trading post until the late 19th century. Imagine merchants bartering goods, travelers resting before continuing their journeys, and the constant hum of activity. Sadly, most of these historical buildings were lost to the development of Sha Tin New Town. Today, Yuen Kong Chau Teng and the surrounding area have been transformed into a park, a peaceful retreat from the city’s hustle. While the original village is gone, its history remains. The story of Yuen Kong Chau Teng is a reminder of Hong Kong’s ever-changing landscape, where progress and history intertwine.
