Perhaps Yuen Kok Tau was once an island. Before the 1970s reclamation, Yuen Chau Kok was an island in Tide Cove. Today, let’s explore the story of Yuen Kok Tau.

Yuen Kok Tau is located in Sha Tin District. It is in the New Territories of Hong Kong. You can find it near Sha Tin Road and Prince of Wales Hospital. It is within walking distance of City One station. The station is on the MTR Tuen Ma line.

Before reclamation work in the 1970s, this area looked very different. Yuen Chau Kok was then an island within Tide Cove.

That island played an important role in the past. It served as a major station. Travellers and goods passed through here. They journeyed between Guangdong and Kowloon.

Wong Uk Village was a key part of this trade. It was a trading station. Merchants and travellers used it until the late 19th century. Sadly, reclamation changed much of this history. Tide Cove was reclaimed to develop Sha Tin New Town. This led to the ruin or demolition of most old village buildings.

Today, the main part of the island has been transformed. It is now a park. This provides a green space for locals and visitors alike.

Another village also found its home here. A branch of the Tse village of Sha Tin Wai relocated to Yuen Chau Kok. They built their own village in the area.

Yuen Chau Kok is also part of a specific educational zone. It falls within Primary One Admission School Net 91. This net includes multiple aided schools. These schools are funded by the government but operate independently.

So, as we stand here at Yuen Kok Tau, remember its past. It was once an island, a trading hub and a place of relocation. Now, it is a park and part of a community.
