Established in 1959 York University stands as a beacon of education. It is located in Toronto Ontario Canada. York University is one of Canada’s largest universities. It opened its doors to students in 1960.
York University started with just 76 students. The first class was held in Falconer Hall. This hall was part of the University of Toronto campus. In 1961 York moved to Glendon Hall. Glendon Hall emphasized liberal arts. It also focused on part-time adult education. By 1965 York University opened its second campus. This was the Keele Campus in North York.
Murray Ross played a crucial role. He was approached to become York University’s president. At that time York was supposed to be a feeder campus for U of T. Ross’s vision transformed it. York became a separate institution.
