A sixteen-thousand-square-meter oasis. That’s Yella-Hertzka-Park. It’s a green haven in Vienna’s Donaustadt district specifically in the Seestadt Aspern.

This isn’t just any park. Yella-Hertzka-Park honors Yella Hertzka a remarkable Austrian woman. She was a gardener and a champion of women’s rights. In 1913 she established Vienna’s first horticultural school for girls. She ran it until 1938. What a legacy.

The park’s creation wasn’t instantaneous. The Vienna Municipal Council’s Culture and Science Committee decided to name it after her on February 28 2012. Construction began on May 26 2014 with a groundbreaking ceremony. The grand opening finally arrived on July 3 2015.

Think of the effort that went into building Yella-Hertzka-Park. Years of planning planting and dedication. It’s a tribute to Yella Hertzka’s own dedication to her horticultural school and its students. A school where countless young women learned a trade. A trade empowering them to shape a better future.

Imagine the bustling activity during the opening celebration. People strolling through the newly planted gardens. Children laughing as they explore the pathways. A fitting tribute to a pioneering woman. Yella Hertzka dedicated her life to nurturing both plants and future generations. Yella-Hertzka-Park now stands as a testament to her vision. A green space for all to enjoy.

So here we stand at Yella-Hertzka-Park. More than just a park it’s a living legacy. A celebration of a woman who dared to dream and to build. It’s a green space a symbol of empowerment and a place of quiet reflection. This is Yella-Hertzka-Park. A beautiful place in Vienna. A place to remember and appreciate.
