XLVIII Liceum Ogólnokształcące im. Edwarda Dembowskiego

From a simple “thousand-year school” to a beacon of education, the XLVIII Liceum Ogólnokształcące im. Edwarda Dembowskiego has witnessed decades of transformation. Established on September 1, 1957, this Warsaw institution initially served as both a primary school and a high school. Imagine young students bustling through these halls, their laughter echoing through the corridors, their minds absorbing knowledge. The XLVIII Liceum Ogólnokształcące im. Edwarda Dembowskiego wasn’t always located here at Barska 32. It began its life here, then moved to a new building on Szczęśliwicka Street in 1965. This move coincided with a nationwide educational reform that separated primary and secondary education. The school was originally named Szkoła Podstawowa i Liceum Ogólnokształcące nr 48, quite a mouthful. It wasn’t until 1960 that it adopted its current name, honoring the Polish philosopher and journalist, Edward Dembowski. This honor came with a new banner, gifted by both the Air Force and Air Defense Command and the school’s Parent Committee. The XLVIII Liceum Ogólnokształcące im. Edwarda Dembowskiego has been a cradle of learning for countless students. In 1961, the first class of 31 students graduated, marking a significant milestone in the school’s history. The school introduced specialized classes in the 1970s, fostering deeper learning in mathematics, physics, biology, chemistry, and humanities. This led to the formation of student science and subject-specific clubs, nurturing passions and expanding academic horizons. Over the years, the XLVIII Liceum Ogólnokształcące im. Edwarda Dembowskiego saw leadership changes, expansions, and mergers with other schools. In 1980, six more classes were added, doubling the number of specialized classrooms and significantly enriching the school’s library. The school has a rich tradition of academic excellence, producing participants and winners in subject Olympiads and competitions. It has fostered traditions and customs passed down through generations of students. Interestingly, educational reforms in 2017 brought the XLVIII Liceum Ogólnokształcące im. Edwarda Dembowskiego back to its original location at Barska 32. The circle completed, the school continues to shape young minds, carrying its legacy forward.
