Struggling to keep pace with modernization, the Armed Forces needed rocket technology in the late 1950s. That need sparked something amazing. This is the story of Wydzia\u0142 Mechatroniki i Lotnictwa.

Wydzia\u0142 Mechatroniki i Lotnictwa started its journey in 1961. It began as the Department of Missile Armament of the WAT. In 1968, it transformed into the Electromechanical Department of Missile Armament. The department took over classical armament training in 1971. It was then renamed the Electromechanical Department.

A significant change occurred on November 15, 1994. The Electromechanical Faculty transformed into the Faculty of Armament and Aerospace. This change replaced the mixed institute-chair structure with an institute structure.

The restructuring of WAT at the beginning of 2003 brought more changes. The Faculty shifted to a civilian full-time structure. It then took on the name Faculty of Mechatronics.

To better reflect its evolving tasks, another name change occurred on January 1, 2012. The Department of Mechatronics became the Department of Mechatronics and Aerospace. It is now Wydzia\u0142 Mechatroniki i Lotnictwa.

At Wydzia\u0142 Mechatroniki i Lotnictwa, education focuses on a deep understanding of many disciplines. Students gain a thorough knowledge of mechanics and aerospace materials. They also learn about electronics, microprocessor technology, and automation. Electrical engineering, applied computer science, and advanced computer techniques are key too.

Students use a wide array of software tools. CAD, CAM, and CAE software like UNIGRAPHICS are available. CFD software such as FLUENT, ANSYS, NASTRAN, and COSMOS are also used. MATLAB is available too.

First-cycle studies in Aeronautics and Astronautics offer specialized paths. Students can focus on Avionics. Alternatively, they can specialize in Airframe and Aircraft Propulsion. These specializations provide unique knowledge and skills. They align with students’ interests and career goals.
