Established on September 1, 2016 the Wydzia\u0142 Dziennikarstwa, Informacji i Bibliologii Uniwersytetu Warszawskiego stands before us. It emerged from the Institute of Journalism and the Institute of Scientific Information and Bibliological Studies. These were previously part of other University of Warsaw departments. The faculty’s research and teaching focus on media studies, information science and bibliology.

Housed partly in the former building of Teodozja Majewska’s bathhouse on Bednarska 2/4 the Wydzia\u0142 Dziennikarstwa, Informacji i Bibliologii also uses facilities at Nowy \u015awiat 69. This division reflects the faculty’s diverse academic activities.

What academic paths can one pursue here at the Wydzia\u0142 Dziennikarstwa, Informacji i Bibliologii? Students can study Information Space Architecture and Journalism and Media Studies. Other options include Scientific Information and Library Science and Logistics and Administration in Media. Those interested in contemporary publishing or Big Data Management also find programs here.

Leading this institution are dedicated individuals. As of the 2024-2028 term Professor Dariusz Ku\u017amina serves as Dean. Supporting him are Vice-Deans Jacek Puchalski, Micha\u0142 G\u0142owacki and Maria \u0141oszewska-O\u0142owska.

The Wydzia\u0142 Dziennikarstwa, Informacji i Bibliologii is organized into several key departments. These include the Department of Media Anthropology and the Department of Library and Other Cultural Institution Studies. Also vital are the Department of Bibliography and Documentation and the Department of Photography and Visual Communication. The Department of Information Science and the Department of Media Language contribute to the faculty’s academic breadth. Rounding out the departments are the Department of Social Communication and Public Relations and the Department of Book and Media History. Also important are the Department of Media Law, the Department of Media Systems and the Department of Information Technology of Media.

Beyond departments the Wydzia\u0142 Dziennikarstwa, Informacji i Bibliologii houses important research centers. The Center for Media Analysis and the Media Research Laboratory promote study of media. The Television and Film Research Laboratory and the Ryszard Kapu\u015bci\u0144ski Research and Education Center enrich the faculty’s resources.

The Wydzia\u0142 Dziennikarstwa, Informacji i Bibliologii also publishes four academic journals. “Studia Medioznawcze” is a quarterly journal founded in 2000. “Przegl\u0105d Biblioteczny” is Poland’s oldest library science journal. “Zagadnienia Informacji Naukowej \u2013 Studia Informacyjne” targets international information science researchers. Finally “Z Bada\u0144 nad Ksi\u0105\u017ck\u0105 i Ksi\u0119gozbiorami Historycznymi” covers social communication and media.

Within the Wydzia\u0142 Dziennikarstwa, Informacji i Bibliologii are four libraries. These are the Faculty Library, the Polish Digital Library, the Virtual Museum of Polonia and the Medioteka. The Polish Digital Library offers digital copies of unique Polish items from foreign collections. The Virtual Museum of Polonia provides information about Polish archives, libraries and museums abroad. The Medioteka contains texts by faculty members in the fields of bibliology and information science.

The Media Research Laboratory and the Center for Media Analysis conduct interdisciplinary research. They analyze media messages, broadcasters and recipients of social communication. These units have equipment for studying communication processes. This includes eye-tracking equipment, a VR arena and a gamification room.

Akademickie Radio Kampus a workshop radio station belongs to the University of Warsaw. Since 2016 it has been organized within the Wydzia\u0142 Dziennikarstwa, Informacji i Bibliologii. It broadcasts 24 hours a day on 97.1 MHz. The radio station provides students with practical training in journalism and sound engineering.

Since 2014 the Wydzia\u0142 Dziennikarstwa, Informacji i Bibliologii has organized the nationwide Media Knowledge Olympics. This event promotes knowledge of media and social communication among high school students.
