Opened in 1888, the Woollahra Gates stand as a grand entrance to Centennial Park. These iconic gates, designed by W.L. Vernon and built by Loveridge & Hudson Stonemasons, have witnessed over a century of history. The Woollahra Gates mark a popular entry point from the bustling Bondi Junction area, welcoming vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians alike. Originally dedicated at the park’s opening, the Woollahra Gates hold a special place in Centennial Park’s heritage. In the early 1900s, the palisade fencing surrounding the gates disappeared. However, thanks to a dedicated restoration project supported by the Centennial Parklands Foundation, the gates and fencing were meticulously restored to their former glory. The restoration work, completed by specialists from NSW Public Works and the Government Architect’s Office, also included repairs and general maintenance of the sandstone piers and railings. The Woollahra Gates, now standing proudly restored, continue to serve as a beautiful and historic gateway to Centennial Park’s sprawling green expanse. They offer a glimpse into the park’s rich past, inviting visitors to explore its many wonders.
