“Our Lady of the Woods!” Can you imagine those words echoing through the halls of what we now know as The Woods Academy? In 1975, a dedicated group of parents breathed new life into the former Ursuline Academy.
The Woods Academy stands as an independent Catholic school. It welcomes children from preschool through middle school. The academy’s history is rooted in a commitment to Catholic education in Bethesda, Maryland.
Originally, the school arose from the closure of Ursuline Academy’s lower school. Three families united to form Our Lady of the Woods Corporation. These founding families were the Reeses, the Scozzafavas, and the Walshes. Their vision ensured the continuation of Catholic education.
In 1977, The Woods Academy moved to its current six-acre campus. You will find it at the intersection of Burdette and Greentree Road. The campus provides ample space for learning and play.
The Woods Academy offers a Montessori program for children ages three to six. It is accredited by the American Montessori Society. The Lower School includes grades one through four. Students focus on literacy, math, and foreign languages. They also explore various forms of art.
